Week 12 post 3

Combining dualism, people of color did not ask to be placed at a disadvantage, therefore placing all people on their rightful platform of equivalent importance would no doubt increase the advancements of this world immensely. And of course, for a person with white privilege it is much easier to say "black people need to work harder" rather than disturbing your own comfort to fight a problem that is damaging to your fundamental equals. I think in the end, those who submit to the laws of man and ignore the laws of nature [that point to a supreme understanding of love and kindness and equality] will end up suffering the most. As C.S. lewis said:              “The sins of the flesh are bad, but they are the least bad of all sins. All the worst pleasures are purely spiritual: the pleasure of putting other people in the wrong, of bossing and patronising and spoiling sport, and back-biting, the pleasures of power, of hatred.” What are more way...

Amid all of this political tension, there is so much denial surrounding social injustices. One of which being unequal opportunities. Not only do people not accept that systemic racism is still extremely prevalent in the United States, they don't understand why "hard work" is not a reasonable answer to the problem.  In electromagnetism, photons vibrate at different frequencies which result in unique energies. This ranges from x-rays, radio waves, ultraviolet light, visible light, gamma rays and so forth. A higher frequency a photon has, the more energy it carries. Take visible light for example:  Red is the color with the greatest wavelength, lowest frequency and therefore lowest in energy. Purple on the other hand has the shortest wavelength, highest frequency and this greatest energy. You can compare this to a person with privilege and a person with a disadvantage- In this country it is safe to compare the color red to someone with white privilege and purple to a person...

Week 11 post 3

The sentence about harmony being two complimentary halves to one whole and this whole being a separate greater entity reminds me of emergence. I don't really believe in a traditional God from any major religion, but my research has given me great reverence for the strong apparent force all around us that when we treat well, we are treated well back. As people we sometimes subliminally strive to optimize our well-being, but turn to laws of man in order to find that happiness. Unhealthy compulsions towards material objects offsets balance in nature and in turn hurt people. What do I do post 12 on?? Wouldn't the world be so great if everyone wasn't so obsessed with the social constructs of the world like MONEY?! #ew. In our society we are raising our children often times with a target goal is being smart going to good school and making lots of money. It is so sadddddd. How would the world look if people were raised with the ideal of making peace with nature rather than making...

Week 11 Post 2

Taoism is an eastern religion that originated in china. It emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao (or "the way) and "advocates for humility and religious piety" (Oxford Languages Definition). The religious book of Taoism is the Tao De Ching written by Lao-Tzu. In it, Lao-Tzu explains how earth is a reflection of heaven, and run by universal heavenly laws- not laws of man. The more man interferes with the natural balance produced by the universal laws, the further away harmony retreats (The Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff). The four principals of Taoism are simplicity, going with the flow, letting go and harmony.  Simplicity is ensuring a rudimentary lifestyle that emphasizes self sustainability and thus a good relationship with your environment. Going with the flow is accepting the things way are- accepting the way. It is living in harmony with the present and taking advantage of ones situation in the moment. Going with the flow is living in the present; "rather than...

Week 10 post 3

I think it is really interesting that the Church was so reluctant to abandon the very  egocentric world view with the earth carrying the humans in the center of the universe.  I also love that I learned about deductive and inductive reasoning. I always knew that religion and science were similar in that they could not always define reality to its full extent (there is still room for error) although science is still more deductive than religion as it gives more logical explanation to natural phenomena.  What are more examples of scientific methodology and its religious parallels? Is that a sandwich?!  I have always been interested in the idea that if there was infinite knowledge, that would prove how little we know about reality in knowing that anything divided by infinity would be zero. But of course we can't prove infinity and we dont know if there is infinite knowledge!!!! also why does pee come out of the nipples?

Week 10 post 2

With 8 billion people on earth and an equal amount of vastly different perspectives of the world, there are equally as many different conclusions on the the essence of reality. But would it be accurate to conclude just one of those many different views is right? Clearly there is an essence of reality, but no one person could provide a perfect explanation of it.  Carrying off of week 6 is the idea of humility in that no one person is better for the reason that they have a better understanding of reality. The human mind is forever muddled with the obstructions of experiences and wonders and genetics that compose their definition of reality making it impossible to make 100% true deductions about our physical existence.  Collectively, world views of the universe are changing all of the time. Beginning with the arostotilian paradigm, it was widely accepted that   the earth was at the center of the universe and held in place by crystal disks. That was until Galileo and Copernic...

Week 9 post 3

Over the summer, I thoroughly enjoyed looking for examples of the fibbionacci sequence in nature, here are some more examples. Also, I am thinking about how in the bible God said "it is good" on the final day, I wonder if when that was written, the author was perhaps referring to beauty and good things in nature. People are attracted to beautiful things, people want love and peace. Similarly to botanical growth and efficiency, take a look at the shape of the water crystals after certain things are repeated to them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-0PeUeYbqw) The positive words and sounds result in beautiful visuals while the negative sounds and words show asymmetrical almost disgruntled looking visuals. Also, I think positivity is definitely universal. Think about how dogs respond better to positive tones, and how plants grow better in more uplifting and light environments.

week 9 post 2

Something that every human can appreciate is beauty, and beauty is generally associated with goodness. It is a mystery why we find some things beautiful and others not, but regardless w are programed to recognize it for our survival. In specific, one common quality of beauty is symmetry seeing that it cues good health and prosperity. In addition, t here is overwhelming evidence that beauty improves cognitive and physical health. An experiment involving artwork was conducted where people were asked to observe sets of two very similar paintings and report which one they felt was more beautiful and meaningful. The difference in the paintings was that one was painted with intent and the other was an unoriginal imitation. A majority of the time, people chose the painting that was full of intent as the more beautiful one. Furthermore, beauty cultivates positive emotions, and even better health. For example when meaningful art is placed hospitals, patients report feeling happier, more comfort...

Week 8 post 3

Consciousness is a huge scientific, psychological and philosophical mystery. In Genisis, the first book of the Bible, God "breathes the breath of life" into Adam and brings him into being. This would check out with both definitions of emergence as something extra was given to humans at their beginning.  Could someone argue that everything humans built and named and feel is a result of emergence? What are examples of emergence in religion besides the breath of life? Is emergence a clue to some greater being?

Week 8 Post 2

The textbook definition of "emergence" is "coming into  being" of "giving rise to". In physics, emergence is something different. " emergence  occurs when an entity is observed to have properties its parts do not have on their own, properties or behaviors which emerge only when the parts interact in a wider whole". The most famous example of emergence that allows one to write this blog post is life. Physicist Brian Greene said in his interview with Joe Rogan's:              " Stuff of the world, the inanimate stuff of the Heavens and us we all  I come from the same fundamental ingredients and the same    fundamental laws. Now some people find that that gives them  I don't know a sense of desperation. Assenting were not special, a sense that sir,  how the universe is pointless or meaningless, but in my view on this, is it spectacular  that were made of th...

Week 7 post 3

This kind of living and leading is far from wise or god-like. What is wise is to accept the continual ebb and flow of life and to accept change and ones individual lack of omniscience. The future is mathematically uncertain, so why not embrace uncertainty and welcome change-- especially when it could uplift a world of oppression.  This strongly relates to free will and change as change is always happening and there is no way to stop that. And once again I will emphasize that we are living in the present and there is no escaping that. We can't go back and change slavery or our environmental decisions we made 20 years ago. All you can do is accept now and better prepare for the future. We are headed full steam to an environmental catastrophe. Action was not taken soon enough, so we must find ways to survive the conditions we are heading for.  I wonder-if an alien came to earth, would they view the powerful oil dudes as the smart and good ones or the people who fight for ch...

week 6 post 3

It is beginning to make sense that religion is just a respective communities search for the meaning of reality. Perhaps the true essence of reality is the god like entity that religions all over the world worship. In order to attain all of the knowledge of reality, you would have to be god. I think sometimes people are too obsessed with getting all of the knowledge and power and develop too strong a desire to be revered as god then eventually forget all about the important things like wisdom.  Also, in the beginning of the history of humans, we had a much more unformed and childlike understanding of the world. As we grow as a human race, we grow in knowledge and understanding.  Wisdom is associated with virtues such as benevolence and ethics, so what good does knowledge do if it is not kind or loving? How can the physical facts of the science of god impact a communities view on their own religion? Gods are often morphed into human archetypes, but could this make people think d...

Week 7 post 2

Evil is bad, and likely has some definitive origin within any individual. In christianity, evil comes from an obsession of power and knowledge and desire to be God. Sometimes people in positions of much power and knowledge become too comfortable, and when that authority is threatened, all hell breaks loose.  In the year 2020, this concept seemed to be heavily apparent. In the beginning of the year, forrest fires were raging in Australia. A root cause was human caused climate change. Climate change can be largely accredited to unhealthy living habits of people and the stupid large amount of fossil fuel used in just about every area of our lives. People with lots of money in the oil mining industry have tons of power over global economics, but would be far from comfortable with changing their habits as it endangers their pleasant sheltered livelihood - regardless of the environmental benefits. Also, people can't bear the thought of eating less red meat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

week 6 post 2

Theologian Alistair McGrath wrote the book "The Science of God" not to describe the ways God works through nature, rather the deep ontological connection between science and religion and the metaphysical reasoning for traditions, social constructs, perceived realities and so forth. A Portuguese organization "Christians in Science" uploaded a video on their YouTube that describes this relationship unbiasedly and factually. The video begins by confirming a human inability to shift from a position of earthy observer to all knowing. As Marcelo Glacier stated in his primary units of his EdX course "Question Reality", most religions assert that a god-like omniscient entity would only exist in a separated realm where one would not be bound by space and time.  The next main point made is that information just exists and is completely neutral-- and as humans, we are fully inferior to it. When someone thinks about anything, they are usually inclined to think about...
